Fire and Ice / Feuer und Eis :)
This week I really don’t have much to tell – it went by fast yet seemed to drag on an on forever – at least that’s how it felt. I was constantly tired and felt like going to bed as soon as I got home from work every night. Oh well, better luck next week.
The weather has been slightly crazy (“That’s Missouri for you” is what I hear on a daily basis) – one day it’s 59 degrees, the next it doesn’t get above 32… So we’ve been burning wood one day and the windows open the next, because the air outside was so nice.Diese Woche gibt es nicht so furchtbar viel zu berichten – sie war schnell vorbei und zog sich doch ewig – gefühlt jedenfalls. Ich war grund-müde und hätte jeden Abend nach der Arbeit auch gut ins Bett gehen können. So ist das halt manchmal – ich hoffe auf Besserung.
Das Wetter spielt zurzeit leicht verrückt („So ist das in Missouri“ höre ich ungefähr einmal am Tag) – an einem Tag hat es 18° und Sonne, am nächsten geht es nicht über 0° hinaus… Also hatten wir in den letzten Wochen mal den Ofen an und haben mit Feuer geheizt und mal die Fenster auf, weil die Luft echt schön war.
After I’ve been told multiple time that my „office“ walls are too empty, I’ve brought in a few things from home and put them up: my always perfectly fitting postcard (it says “Office for spectacular spontaneous wish fulfillment, what can I do for you today?” and I already had it hanging up in my old office in Germany) as well as a picture of us that was taking at the company’s Fall Party, one week before I got hired. Of course I also consider my water cup to be decorative 
(it’s from my favorite German band).
Nachdem ich jetzt schon mehrfach gehört habe, dass meine „Büro“-Wände so kahl seien, habe ich jetzt mal was von zuhause mitgebracht und aufgehängt: die immer noch perfekte Postkarte (hing schon in meinem Welthungerhilfe-Büro) und ein Foto von uns, dass bei der Firmen-Party im Herbst (1 Woche vor meiner Einstellung hier) gemacht wurde. Natürlich zähle ich auch meinen Wasserbecher zur Deko :-).
On Sunday the Broncos will be playing in the Super Bowl which we will not be watching with Bill& Deb for a change, but at Adam’s co-workers house together with a few other people. I’m rather pessimistic by nature, but so far that seems to have helped the Broncos move on – so let’s hope for the best (otherwise our drive back home will be rather depressing ^^).
Am Sonntag spielen die Broncos im Superbowl, also dem Football-Saison Endspiel und nach wie vor einem der TV-Ereignisse mit den höchsten Einschaltquoten des Jahres. Zur Abwechslung schauen wir uns das Spiel mal nicht mit Bill& Debbie an, sondern sind bei einer Kollegin von Adam mit ein paar weiteren Leutchen eingeladen. Ich bin ja von Natur aus eher pessimistisch, aber bisher hat das den Broncos anscheinend Glück gebracht – also hoffen wir mal auf das Beste (sonst wird das eine unschöne Heimfahrt ^^).
Adam and his friend Kory took the Elantra’s motor apart two days this week to find out if it was indeed warped or otherwise broken. It’s all looking pretty good and there doesn’t seem to be any major damage. So we’ll get the head shaved and put in a new radiator in the hopes of that getting it back up an running!
Adam hat zweit Tage lang mit einem seiner Freunde den Elantra-Motor auseinandergenommen und versucht das Problem zu diagnostizieren. Es sieht recht gut aus – keine größeren Schäden festzustellen. Also wird jetzt ein Teil professionell geschliffen und der Kühlwasserbehälter ersetzt, dann läuft das gute Stück vielleicht schon wieder!
Oh and maybe I should mention that my eye check-up yesterday went very well indeed. This one’s eyes now have 20/ 20 vision and everything lots great. Success :-)!
Oh und vielleicht sollte ich noch erwähnen, dass mein Augenarzt Termin gestern äußerst positive verlief. Meine Augen sind bei 100% Sehstärke und alles sieht gut aus. Erfolg :-)!
