In the last few weeks, Alyssa had a lot of band stuff going on – first there was a competition on the weekend before last, then the Spring concert on the following Tuesday. For the competition the entire band performed first, but then everybody played a solo – which was something she had never done before. She actually practiced (that doesn’t usually happen) and was pretty nervous about it, but then did really good. The judge was brilliant, because he actually gave advice to every one of the kids and showed them a few things depending on what they could improve.
In den letzten Wochen hatte Alyssa diverse Band Events – zuerst einen Wettbewerb und dann das Frühjahrskonzert. Im Wettbewerb spielte die gesamte Band, aber jedes Bandmitglied trat ebenfalls mit einem Solo an – das hatte Alyssa vorher noch nie. Sie hat fleißig geübt (das passiert sonst auch nicht) und war echt aufgeregt, aber sie hat es richtig gut gemeistert. Der Wettbewerbsleiter/Richter war auch echt gut und hat jedem der Kinder gute Tipps zu deren Technik gegeben.
This last weekend was the race weekend in Kansas City – we went in May for the first time this year. It was pretty hot on Saturday, but luckily mostly cloudy. The May race is a night race, which meant no roasting at the track either :). The race was incredibly boring this time (only one crash and not until 20 laps before the end), but we had a good time hanging out with everyone.
Am vergangenen Wochenende waren wir mal wieder beim Nascar Rennen in Kansas City – zum ersten Mal im Mai. Es war am Samstag ziemlich warm, aber wenigstens meistens bewölkt. Das Rennen im Mai ist abends, was klasse ist, da man dann nicht in der Sonne brät :). Das Rennen selbst war total öde (nur ein Unfall 20 Runden vor Schluss), aber das Drumherum hat trotzdem Spaß gemacht.
